How to Embed Audio Looping With AutoPlay in WordPress

Hey there, Vaughn Bullard here again! Sometimes you just need to groove. So we’re gonna talk about embedding audio looping with autoplay in your WordPress. Why does want to do this. Well, you may want to do this if you’re running a site dedicated to music or, for example, if you just want to have a running background loop that sets the mood for your page. I’ve seen this done on a few spa pages. You know relaxing sounds of meditation music enticing you come down and get a massage. Hearing is a strong sense for people, so, as a musician as well, I can understand why someone would want to put audio on their site.

So check out this page. I’ve mocked up a spa website where we’re going to add some audio to it. This was built in a couple of minutes using a free theme from the WordPress theme repository. I’ve even added some inspiring and relaxing words.

We’re gonna go to the WordPress administration pages. This is done by typing in the url of your blog followed by forward slash wp-admin. You will be prompted for your administrative username and password. Type that in and press the “Login” button.

What we’re gonna do is add a “New Post”. We will go to Post, Add New and then start by adding audio. I’ve taken the liberty of downloading an audio clip that is relaxing and conducive to my Mock Spa site. It is the sound of a stream.

OK, so my audio is uploaded. Now I’m gonna go ahead and grab the URL of that audio.

Then we’re going to head over to our home page and going to edit the raw HTML text of the page. We’re going to include an EMBED HTML tag. Now what this does is allow you to embed media files into your WordPress pages.

So we’re going to do an open caret, type in EMBED. We’re going to include a SRC attribute and we’re going to paste in the URL of the audio. THEN, we’re going to type in two additional attributes, AUTOSTART = true and LOOP=true, we can give it some random height and width attributes as well. That’s it. We’re going to update the page. Now we’ll view. As you will notice, after about a minute, you will notice that the audio will have a slight pause and looping will continue.

TIP: Use audio conservatively. No one wants to be sitting at their desk at work checking out your website and have your page start blaring heavy metal or gangsta rap. Also give users, the ability to turn off, pause or mute the audio.

TIP: If you’re going to use looping audio, ensure that you have seamless audio looping. No one wants to hear what would seem like skipping audio. There are many editors out there that allow you to stitch seamless audio together.

That’s just how easy it is folks! For more info on doing other cool things with WordPress, check out my other WordPress Lessons on eHow.com and check out Build.Automate’s innovative WordPress plugins at www.buildautomate.com .
